Sweetness of Parental Love Travels Distances to Brighten Up the Festivities of their Daughter

Travelling across 650 km and journeying for 16 hours, a father arrives to his daughter’s home with her favourite Diwali delicacies, prepared with homemade goodness by her mom!

When a friend of mine came home on Diwali with a plateful of festive delicacies, it turned out that the yummy treat was more than a culinary preparation in her kitchen. She narrated how her father carried the delightful sweets, painstakingly prepared by her mom, travelling all the way from their hometown in Pandharpur, Maharashtra to Bangalore, Karnataka where she lives with her husband and two kids.

A few days ago she had casually mentioned to her parents that this year she is not likely to make any elaborate dishes as she is recovering from the after effects of dengue. On hearing this, her mom began preparing and packing the delicacies. Her dad took a train journey to personally “deliver” this labor of love.

Wholesome and comforting indeed, the sweet and savoury treats smell and taste of the unique simplicity of Maharashtrian cuisine. However, what is more flavoursome is something that’s so special about festivals. It’s not merely the cookery but the lingering aroma of such stories of homemade goodness made with care and brought and fed with love to the loved ones 🙂
