The excitement of watching spectacular feats has thankfully not completely fizzled out. While the seats are filled way less than their capacity, the show still goes on.
In times when the smart phone users and television viewers have the compulsive urge to constantly click and swipe through infinite windows of entertainment, it is no mean feat for the live performers of circus to keep the audiences transfixed for two full hours to the jaw-dropping acts in the ring. With its illustrious heritage of 104 years, the Great Bombay Circus has been travelling all over India, performing in various cities. The circus had returned to Hyderabad after three-decades in February 2024 at Qutbullapur, HMT Grounds. Opening again on April 26, 2024 at Gymkhana Ground, Secunderabad, it has been a summer treat for kids and families.
Although the popularity of circus has been fading over the years with the influx of ubranization and gadgets, the excitement of watching spectacular feats has thankfully not completely fizzled out. While the shows are filled way less than their capacity, the shows still go on.
From flying trapeze artists, Russian ring dance, Arabian fire dance, jugglery, Mongolian Iron Ball (Strong Man), Chinese Sword Balance to the kids’ favourite clowns, the circus showcases dare devilry and skilled acts by several domestic and international artists. In fact, it is the dedication of such artists that is carrying the legacy of the circus. With vendors selling ice-creams and popcorn in between the show, the circus is indeed a charming reminder of a bygone era when such live performances were the only source of entertainment.
