A living nostalgia whose timeless charm can beat even the most luxurious and extravagant of technically-advanced entertainment zones, Numaish is a fun-filled, easygoing joy ride that Hyderabadis can never get enough of.

What do Hyderabadis do with their evenings every January-February? Numaish on weekdays and Numaish on weekends, and well because they can never get enough of it, Numaish on any given public holiday! You can take a Hyderabadi out of Hyderabad but you can never take the charm of Numaish out of what “being Hyderabadi” is all about.

If the famous biryani, Irani chai and Osmania biscuits define the culinary identity of Hyderabad, Numaish, aka All India Industrial Exhibition, is a socio-cultural space that resonates the very spirit of Hyderabad. Holding a very special place in the heart of every Hyderabadi and even for those who make this city their home, Numaish is a one-of-its-kind annual event that enlivens the city every New Year with its 46 days of full-on funfair.

Giving a taste of the best of India’s and world’s shopping experiences, arts & crafts, food and umpteen entertainment options right in the heart of Hyderabad for more than 80 years now is what makes Numaish unique and inimitable. Stall hopping for serious shopping… popping in popcorns while loitering… foodies’ haven for indulgence in lip-smacking delicacies… joyrides with family and friends… hand-in-hand with your special someone… You are only bound to get spoilt for choice and experience every time you visit Numaish.

Quintessence of Hyderabadi ethos

A living nostalgia whose timeless charm can beat even the most luxurious and extravagant of technically-advanced entertainment zones, Numaish is a fun-filled, easygoing joy ride for people across generations.

Dating back to 1938, when it was inaugurated by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, at Public Gardens where it was initially held, this is one event that has become a quintessential part of the Hyderabadi ethos.

With the pandemic taking its biggest toll on social events universally, Numaish is no exception. For the first time ever in the history of the Exhibition, the organisers have had to defer the event. The last time something vaguely similar happened was during 1947-48 when Numaish was shelved following the Indian Independence movement.

In the meantime, check out Numaish-e-Nostalgia, a docu-drama retrieved from the academic archives of ex-students of Masters in Communication of SN School, University of Hyderabad. The film is a carefully preserved memory of both Numaish and the documentary making project for the academic year, 1999-2000.
