Looking radiant begins with the right skincare, haircare and makeup says Shilpa Jain, a well-known Celebrity Makeup Artist & Stylist. Make the best of some handy skin & hair care tips and styling ideas for the season by our beauty expert and guest columnist.
The festival of lights is here and this is just the perfect time to shine your brightest. Glam up in your festive finest and elevate your whole look with a radiant skin and the perfect makeup. This Diwali is a little different from previous years with all of us maintaining social distancing and donning our outfits with face masks. But nothing can dull the sparkle in us. Look your best, be ‘stylishly reflective’ and celebrate with the same festive spirit as always.
Glowing Complexion: Follow a regular skincare regimen. Exfoliation is a very important process for your glowing skin. I still maintain the age-old tradition of exfoliating my skin with gram flour, almond powder, honey, a pinch of turmeric and full milk. This leaves your skin supple and radiant. Dead skin cells diffuse light and cause skin dullness hence it’s very important to exfoliate twice every week.
You can also use a deep conditioning sheet mask or sleep mask to plump or moisturize your skin.
Body Rituals: It’s always a good idea to indulge in a good body scrub. Homemade orange scrub is just the perfect one. Your skin loves Vitamin C. To the orange rind, add oatmeal, sandalwood powder, walnut powder, gram flour, honey and milk. Apply this and watch the instant glow post exfoliation, leaving your skin feeling fresh and healthy.
Hair Care: Deep hydrating hair mask is a quick solution for your troubled tresses.
You can also create this easy homemade mask in your kitchen by adding yogurt, honey and olive oil. Apply this to your hair, leave for 45 minutes and rinse. Use this mask to enhance glossiness and the festive sheen.
A deep treatment hair mask is the real superstar for keeping your strands soft and moisturized.
This Diwali, you want to look nothing less than ravishing. Apart from the food, goodie bags and gifts, what tops my list is makeup.
Prep Your Skin: Cleanse your face with your favourite cleanser, tone and moisturize your face. Apply the primer to give a base to your makeup.
This season, add drama to your eyes with eye makeup. With your face masks on, eyes are going to be in focus. Add a hint of glitter to soft smoky eyes and enhance the look with black eyeliner and lots of mascara. Go all out to ‘cherry-pick’ your favourite glitter this season. Don’t forget to use highlighter generously on your cheekbones and collar bones.
Fill your vanity with these skin care regimens and bathe your skin in natural radiance.
Finish your festive look with a dash of tradition by wearing your ethnic ensemble, chaandbaalis, maang tikka and bindi. Use just the right amount of eye catching embellishments and be ‘tastefully festive’.
