This year, Pantone announced Very Peri, the mysterious shade of blue-lavender, as the colour of 2022. Interestingly, we came across Harshini Gopinath, a bride who chose the very same colour for her wedding reception outfit a couple of months ago. Well, she had no clue of Very Peri but was only keen on her favourite colour. Asrashaheen.in checks out Harshini’s reception look as makeup artist Nourin Rahman amped up her periwinkle get-up, giving her a stunning yet subtle bridal appearance. Known for her “glow from within” makeup, Nourin had been nominated for the Best Bridal Makeup Reception/Post Wedding Celebration at Weddingsutra Influencer Awards last year.
Pleasant mood, warm memories, eternal love and loyal friendship… The lively colour of periwinkle flower has long been symbolic of varied emotions and attributes. Such is its contrasting enigma that it is referred to as fairy’s paintbrush in one breath and a witch’s violet in the other. This year, the mysterious colour became the inspiration for Pantone’s colour of 2022 – Very Peri. Every year, the leading global expert in colours crowns a core colour of the year. This time it’s the blue-lavender shade inspired from periwinkle flower. The magical mix of peace and energy is all about accepting uncertainty in the present pandemic times with a creative ingenuity. Representing hopefulness and happiness, it’s also a shade that has awestruck millennials and Gen Z in the form of popular high-contrast games.
When Harshini Gopinath was buying her reception lehenga for her wedding in Bangalore a couple of months ago, she had no clue what the color of 2022 was going to be. But she was completely bent upon having her choice of violet-purple in her bridal collection. And she did so going against every “regular bridal colour” that was flung her way. Harshini wore a periwinkle lehenga set by designer Shloka Khialani for her reception. “Purple has always been my favourite colour. Everything I wear has to have this shade of violet, including my nail polish. So when I was planning my wedding wear, I didn’t want to go with the usual bridal reds and maroons. I wanted to have a very different look for my reception,” recollects Harishini, who’s an MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA and has also worked as a Business Analyst in Texas.
For someone who made this unconventional colour choice for her wedding reception, the makeup could not have been anything but unusual. Harishini was clear about going very natural throughout her bridal ceremonies and found makeup artist Nourin Rahman’s portfolio on Instagram matching her dream look for D-day. Nourin, who’d been nominated for the Best Bridal Makeup Reception / Post Wedding Celebration at Weddingsutra Influencer Awards 2021, has an exceptionally nuanced style of doing up her brides. Amping up the sparkle in their eyes and uplifting their natural skin tone, Nourin is quite adept at achieving the “glow from within look”. Browse through her Instagram feed and you will agree she is subtle yet stunning but never over-the-top in her makeup. Her clients, including Harishini, absolutely adore the magical spell her brush casts on them. “She was simply fantastic and far exceeded my expectations. I loved her work and the way she enhanced my natural features. My reception look was a big hit with my near and dear ones, who were totally smitten by my photographs.” Harshini recollects, “Nourin was also very swift and competent in customizing her services to suit the specific requirements of my wedding ceremonies.”
So all you brides-to-be and bridesmaids or anyone planning a refreshing new look for any occasion, you have plenty of inspiration to think out of the box. And for those of you who need some handy colour cues, think Very Peri and splash yourself with the colour of 2022!
