Stay Home to Stay Safe” is the hashtag of our lives in 2020. With WFH being the new normal, it’s time to make your home more functional and uplifting than ever before. But in the present Covid-19 times, we need pocket-friendly solutions. Here’s The Yellow Interiors, an interior design startup, offering you some stunning budget makeovers. Asrashaheen.in talks to Tripti Rampuria, Founder and Managing Director, The Yellow Interiors to find more.

The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back, goes a saying. It only underscores the comfort factor that the very mention of the word “home” brings to your mind. The past couple of months have altered our long-existing bond with our homes though! For those who are living in and working from home, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has only strengthened our sense of belonging, security and safety. For those living away from home or having to move out for work, the “coming back” is no longer the same as it was in the pre-pandemic world! Stringent sanitizing and physical distancing are the new realities of households in 2020.

As most of us spend more time indoors, it makes sense to make our surroundings functional, cosy and uplifting, especially in these times of #lockdown, #isolation and #quarantine. Asrashaheen.in talks to Tripti Rampuria, Founder and Managing Director, The Yellow Interiors to understand how her interior design startup is adapting to the new normal by offering online consultation to their clients. She’s a promising new interior designer on the block, who shares her first-hand experience of working on projects in two architecturally rich cities of India – Kolkata and Hyderabad. Tripti endeavours to provide budget makeovers with more and more people looking for pocket-friendly solutions for their interiors in the present Covid-19 scenario.

Tripti Rampuria

Holding a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree and an advance diploma in Interior Designing and Décor, Tripti grew up dreaming of building her own home scratch. But little did she know that it was easier dreamt than done! When she moved to Kolkata from Bokaro, where she spent her childhood years, she became a keen observer of the architecture of the city and the homes, some of which she felt could have been designed much better, considering the money the owners had spent in building them. Basically, value for money was her mantra from the word go.

From the City of Joy to the City of Nawabs

“While both the cities are equally diversified and unique, they are very different when it comes to tastes and culture. Kolkata was more of my home, where I had spent many years of my life, which made my work easier. Making simple, innovative designs despite space constrains was a challenge. But the people of the city are very open to newer designs and models.

In Hyderabad, I find people mostly have a very authentic and traditional taste. They are very much inclined towards wood and other latest trends in the market. Usage of props is minimal and the choice of colours is very different. For instance, open kitchens are trending in and people are simply loving the idea.

As an interior designer, I try to explore the architecture as much as possible. I loved the streets and the old British and French architecture of Kolkata. In Hyderabad, I enjoy the rich heritage of the Nawabs and Quṭb Shāhī era. It’s my endeavour to imbibe them in my designs and make an indelible impression in the market,” says Tripti.

The Art of Convincing with Conviction

“One of our clients, based in Kolkata, had a very different taste from mine. My style is minimalistic and modern spaces and themes with very subtle use of colours. I finally managed to convince the client by showing 3D pictures of their home and also making them understand the ergonomics of my design, which basically aligned with the family and their needs. As an interior designer, my job is always to understand my client’s need and the full demographics of the home so that it speaks of the people who live in it. I also try and ensure it emanates certain positive vibes to bring on optimism in their everyday life,” she explains.

Budget Makeovers – the USP of Yellow Interiors

We believe in giving our clients full value for their time and money. In the present times, when we are mostly home bound, adding props to your house, changing wallpapers, using lengthy curtains is what we recommend. Modifying and playing with the existing furniture will make a great deal of a difference. Using things that are easily changeable and can be placed at different places can add life to spaces.
