The ongoing 47th Annual Cake Show in Bangalore is the much-awaited gala fair of the year. Admire the marvellously-sculpted cake carvings and also satiate your sweet cravings. An exclusive photo feature and event roundup by Asrashaheen.in

What’s common among the Statue of Liberty, The Great Sphinx of Giza, Minions and Mowgli? Well, you may wonder if they can even be mentioned in the same breath! But at least for once they share the same floor space at the ongoing 47th Annual Cake show in Bangalore. The life-size cake replicas of all of these wonders among many others have been moulded and displayed at St Joseph’s High School Ground (Opp. UB City). The event is organized by National Consumer Fair and Sugar Sculpt and the cake design team is led by the head chef Samie Ramachandran. Like every year, the event is planned such that the show has one centrepiece with topical importance and around 20 other cake installations made as part of the ensemble.

The much-awaited event held annually is now a regular year-end feature in the city, starting from the Christmas upto the New Year. Children, youngsters and people of all ages can’t wait to take the “cake walk” of the sweet-sugary treat to one’s sense.

Interestingly, the first cake show took place decades ago in 1970 at Brigade Road. The man behind the founding idea of the cake event, confectioner Ramachandran C created a 14-inch high sugar model of the Eiffel Tower for the debut show. He was inspired by sugar models on display in Europe (Belgium and West Germany). Ever since, the show has become a cheerful gala event accompanied by an equally colorful consumer fair.
