1920s was the decade that witnessed a dramatic transition in the social and political environment of the nation. It was a time when majority of Americans lived in urban areas than in small towns or on farms. These new city-dwellers were desirous of doing up their homes with art forms that would take them closer to their roots. It was this collective consciousness that prompted the nostalgia for a bygone era of Americana Art.

Folk art is all about simple and honest expression of art in objects of everyday use. Whether it’s crocker pots or stoneware crock, the folk artists seek inspiration from the nature, their surroundings and activities of daily lives. The handcrafting skills are passed on from one generation to another. These traditions are well preserved and cherished by the people of the local communities. From quilts and chests to duck decoys and tools, varied artistic techniques are used which includes chiseling, carving, sewing, weaving, hammering, embroidery or knitting.
